Welcome to our Royal Enfield Race Bike Page.

This is a project that we started to take on last year when we ordered the Cafe' Racer kit from Classic Motorworks.  The kits contained a beautiful hand made aluminum tank, different seat, fenders, right side shift kit and a nice looking exhaust system.  When we first started out on the project bike, all we had in mind was to have a classic looking Cafe' bike on our floor for display.  After a little talking to, Rod decided to  build up this enfield to put on the race track.  That's where this years part of the story begins.

Towards late December of 2002, our mechanic and British bike man 'Hank Grenade' (named changed to protect the guilty), took the Enfield under his arms as a project of total race track domination.  The first thing he did was put the bone stock bike on our Dynojet 200 Dyno machine and did some base line runs.  16.7 H.P. was a little to anemic for us to win, so 'Hank' started to fiddle around with it.

First he removed the silencer on the exhaust pipe and added a bigger main jets for the carb, thus gaining a little more.

After getting to 17.5 H.P., the only way he saw we could get anymore power out of the stock engine was to remove the 28 MM stock carb and put on a 32 MM Mikuni. The carb had just been laying around the shop since the  early eighties, it came off of a CX500 that him and Rod used to race, until it blew up on Rod at Indianapolis

With that carb in place and some more tinkering, 'Hank' finally got the bike up into the twenties, with a high tide mark of 22.3 H.P.!

'Hank' realized if we wanted to make anymore power though, we would need some different engine parts.  That is when we decided to order some trick racing parts for the project.  First off we ordered a new cylinder head for the bike.  The main difference between the heads is that the new one has been ported.  It made a little improvement for us.

Hey, I know its been a long time since an update, but I have been a little busy. Here are a few of the changes and power graphs that we have been getting recently, there is still more to be had though, we have a goal of at least 40 H.P. so that I can really compete with the other racers. This is our final run with the stock piston in the machine yet, I know that I've skipped a couple of graphs and steps, but I can't give everything away now can I? In this run the bike was running really good, but it was time for a bigger change.

This is one of the better runs that we had with our new piston. In this set-up though we are still using a stock pipe, which will soon be changed. We are still also using a stock intake manifold, which is holding us back. Although, we were really impressed with what the over-bored, high compression piston did for us.

In this run we were just kind of messing around with a different silencer that we had laying around. The main reason we did this run, was because the neighbors were getting upset with the loud noise that our machine was making, so we attached the silencer to quiet the bike down, but were impressed with what we saw.

This run here is with a custom made intake manifold. Our mechanic made this one up on a lathe. This is a very, very beautiful piece and it works very well.

As for now, we are just messing around with some other pipe idea's, we are working on a new crank with a Carrillo rod in it. As for more updates, stay tuned, they may be coming quicker now that we have two mechanics working on the project.

Its been a long while since the last update, so I figured it was due. We went racing back in june up at grattan Raceway Park, near Grand Rapids, MI. It was my first time out on the bike and it ran great. We gained alot of informantion about the bike on the Friday Practice day, so we did a little tuning on Friday night. Come Saturday, the bike and I were ready for some racing. We are running our Enfield in Sportsman 500 in the AHRMA series. Sportsman 500 races against Honda 350's, Triumph 500's and BSA 500's. In our first race we got a 9th and on Sunday we got a 8th.

The next race took place at Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course a couple of weekends later, and we did some tuning and some fixing for it. We changed the jetting a little, put in a different crankshaft and a few other things. Our H.P. went up signifcantly. Mid-Ohio is a fun course to race at and I had a great time racing there. On Saturday, I got a 7th in my race, while on Sunday I got a 9th. We had a crash in our Sunday race and we had to restart it, and I got blown away on the start, so I dropped back a few spots. I am on this picture, I am the 4th from the left, with the blue helmet and white leathers. That was taken on Saturday.

Just this past weekend, we had a race at Putnam Park over in the western side of Indiana. I had a great weekend there and the bike ran fine. Although on Saturday I had a little accident on the last corner of the last lap and crashed. The bike and i were ok and we got her back together for sunday and finished 4th on Sunday. At the time, I dont have any picture of Putnam, but I will try and find some.

We went to BeaveRun Motorsports course this weekend and we had a great time over there. The bike ran great both days, but we did have a couple of mechanical mishaps throughout the weekend. I finished in 7th place on Saturday in our class, Sportsman 500. Their was alot of competition in our class, I was running against BSA B-50's and a couple of Triumphs and a lot of Honda 350's and 450's. On Sunday I was running in third place and making ground on second, but my exhaust pipe decidied to snap in half on me and ended my day a little early. I finished 8th on Sunday. Here is a picture of what the bike looks like right now.
